I have gone from “Why do I need a car?” to “Why do I need an apartment?” As I type this I am sitting the business class lounge at Thailand International Airport. I am typing on my computer. I am listening to my music off of iTunes over my noise cancellation headphones. I have my feet up on a leather ottoman and am relaxing in a comfy leather chair. I am using a wireless internet connection as fast as I have at home.

Why do I need my own apartment? Why not travel light and live where ever you want to live whenever you want to live there? I always thought: “Well I at least need to have a place to store all my photos and memorabilia.” Steve provided some excellent advice: Why not scan them all in and have them with you everywhere you go? Outstanding idea.

I am already down to a small one bedroom apartment. Why not eliminate it entirely? I can stay one month in the nicest hotel you can imagine in Bangkok. Beautiful gardens and an army of gardeners. Pristine aquamarine pool with an army of caretakers. A top quality gym with a personal fitness instructor. Maid service a few times a day and fresh fruit brought in once a day. Air conditioned, amazing views. 4 top quality restaurants at your disposal with seating by the river or poolside. Regular river ferry service with ice cold towels and drinking water daily. The cost? About, $3000 a month. Don’t forget the price includes water, heat, air conditioning, etc.

Now if I eliminate my apartment and car the savings are about $1200 per month including utilites. So essentially I can live in a 5 star luxury hotel for $1800 a month. I am not saying I am going to do it (I may for a few months), but the point is, think of the freeing effect of not having any stuff in your life. And it’s kinder on the environment. Think of the flexibility of going and living anywhere you want at a moments notice.

My new blog is coming soon: The Digital Vagabond. The more you posses the more you are possessed. On with the Just Un-Do it blog!

DanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
